Plan for two kinds of week
A busy professional's diary does not have one shape. Some weeks are calm. Others bring a board paper or three days in another city, and those are the weeks when a routine quietly stops.
So plan two. The minimum week is what you do when work takes over, and it has to be small enough that you rarely miss it. The good week is what you do when work allows. You only ever fall back one level, so a hard week costs you a session or two, never the habit. Before you compare gyms, check where RPM sits in Al Manhal, and every other option, against your office and your home, because that decides whether either week is realistic.
The minimum week and the good week
Start each month on the good week. Drop to the minimum week the moment a deadline or a trip appears, and climb back when it passes.
| What it covers | Minimum week | Good week |
|---|---|---|
| Strength sessions | Two, of about 30 minutes on the floor | Three, of 45 to 60 minutes |
| What each session holds | One lower-body lift, one push and one pull | The minimum, plus accessories and a carry or core block |
| Cardio | Brisk walking during the day, such as taking calls on foot | Two steady sessions on a bike, treadmill or cross-trainer, indoors in summer |
| When you train | Slots you control: before work, or a weekend morning | Any window that opens, including a lunch hour or an evening |
| Planning | A written plan you can run without thinking | A check-in with a coach to update the plan |
| What you drop first | Nothing, because this is the floor | The extra cardio, then the third session |
| Sign you are in it | Two or more evenings lost to work, or a trip of three days or longer | No travel, and most evenings your own |
WHO's 2020 guidelines advise adults to do muscle-strengthening activity for all major muscle groups on two or more days a week, alongside 150 to 300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity. The minimum week keeps the strength side. WHO also states that doing some physical activity is better than doing none, so the walking still counts when the cardio sessions go.
The 30-minute session in the minimum column is set out in the half-hour template. Use it as written, so a hard week asks you for no decisions at all.
Six rules that stop a session being cancelled
- Put each session in your work calendar with a title that reads like a meeting, at a time colleagues rarely book. An empty slot gets filled by someone else.
- Move a session, never delete it. If it cannot move within two days, let it go and keep the next one rather than stacking two together.
- Make one session an anchor that no work plan touches, usually a weekend morning. If everything else goes, that one holds.
- Write tomorrow's session before you close the laptop. Choosing exercises in the gym is time a busy week does not have.
- Keep a short version of every session ready: the first two exercises only. If you arrive late, do those and leave, and count it as done.
- Tell one person who controls part of your week, such as a coach or whoever manages your diary. Someone who knows the slot is fixed will defend it.
Work trips and crunch weeks
Travel is where most professional routines break, and usually in the week after the trip, when the anchor slot has gone.
- One or two nights away: skip the gym, walk where you can, and keep the next session at home on schedule.
- Three days or more: you are on the minimum week. Use the gym where you stay, or a short routine in your room built on squats, push-ups, lunges and a plank.
- The first day back: book the anchor session before you unpack, and keep it easy. Jet lag and a full inbox are not the moment for your heaviest lifts.
- Quarter-end, audits and launches: declare a minimum week in advance rather than hoping it will pass. Two planned sessions beat four cancelled ones.
- Ramadan: working hours are often shorter, and many people who fast move training to after iftar. Check the gym's hours for the month before it starts.
If coaching is part of your plan, ask how much notice a coach needs to move a session. Booked sessions that cannot flex around a travel week end up cancelled.
What a gym has to do for a professional's week
Which gym in Abu Dhabi is good for busy professionals?
One that keeps your minimum week cheap in time: on a route you already drive between home and office, open early and late enough for both ends of your working day, with parking you do not hunt for. Coaching that writes the plan is worth paying for if planning is what you skip. Facilities you would use once a month should not decide it.
- Drive the route at the hour you would really train, once from the office and once from home.
- Time the stretch from parking to your first set. Anything slow at the door or the lift repeats on every visit.
- Check what you need to go back to work afterwards: a mirror, a hairdryer and somewhere to change. Ask whether there are showers and whether towels are provided.
- Ask whether you can freeze the membership for long work trips, and how much notice a freeze needs.
For the membership itself, such as which tier suits a full diary and what to get in writing, see choosing a membership for a busy schedule.
RPM and a long working week
RPM is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, with free on-site parking at AD HUB and a lift to the floor. Early-morning and late-evening opening, with shorter Friday hours, can cover a session before the office or after a late finish.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
For the planning problem, Engine adds coached programming and Atelier is built around 1:1 coaching. The grooming hub has hairdryers and products for going straight back to work. Women can train in the women-only Ladies section, and men train in the Mixed section.
Where it does not fit: if neither your office nor your home route passes Al Manhal, the trip will eat your minimum week, and a gym on your own route will serve you better. RPM does not publish prices or busy times, so ask the team, and take a free guided tour at the hour you plan to train.

Questions, answered.
Is it worth training if I only manage the minimum week for a month?
Yes. Two strength sessions a week meet WHO's muscle-strengthening advice for adults, and keeping the habit alive makes the good weeks easier to restart. Add the cardio back when work calms down.
Should I still train after a late night at work?
Do the short version: the first two exercises, lighter than usual. If you feel unwell or unusually exhausted, rest and pick up at the next slot.
Is a personal trainer worth it when I'm short of time?
If you lose time deciding what to do, or skip unless someone expects you, a coach often pays for itself in sessions kept. If you already arrive with a plan and rarely miss, a floor membership may be enough. RPM's personal training page explains how coaching runs in both sections.
How do I keep training on a week-long business trip?
Run it as a minimum week: two short sessions in the gym where you stay or in your room, plus as much walking as the trip allows. Book your anchor session at home for the day after you land.
