One home gym, or a pass that opens many

Choose a single gym membership if you are building strength over months, want the same coaches to know you, or rely on facilities a visiting pass may not cover, such as a women-only section or recovery rooms. Choose a multi-venue app or pass if variety keeps you training, your days move around the city, and you train two or three times a week across different formats. Read the booking limits before you decide, because they shape a pass more than its venue list does.

How the two models differ

A single membership gives you one place: the same floor, the same changing room and the same faces at the desk for as long as the term runs. A multi-venue pass, usually sold through an app, gives you a monthly allowance of visits or credits to spend across many gyms and studios. Each venue decides what an app visit includes and how many credits it costs, and the list of venues can change while you subscribe.

This guide is for residents choosing their main way to train. For a stay of days or weeks, comparing short-term gym access sets apps against passes and short terms. Stacking several specialist studio memberships is another decision, covered in one gym for everything or several studios. RPM's own option is set out on the membership page.

Platforms differ and change their rules. Read the current terms of any app or pass before you subscribe.

Who each one suits

A single membership usually suits:

  • anyone following a strength plan that adds weight week by week
  • women who want a women-only section on every visit, which an app visit may not include
  • people who use classes, coaching or recovery rooms as part of their routine
  • anyone training four or more times a week, which can outrun a monthly allowance of credits

A multi-venue pass usually suits:

  • people who keep training because the format keeps changing
  • anyone whose week moves between districts, such as an office on one island and clients on the mainland
  • new arrivals who want to try several gyms before committing to one
  • people training two or three times a week for general fitness rather than a strength target

The small print that decides it

  • Credits per visit vary. A premium venue or a peak-hour slot can cost more credits than a quiet studio, so a month can run out sooner than the headline suggests.
  • Caps limit your favourite. Some passes cap visits to any single venue each month, which matters if you come to prefer one gym.
  • Peak slots may be held back. Venues sometimes keep the after-work hours for their own members.
  • Unused credits may lapse at the end of each month.
  • Coaching needs repetition. A coach who sees you once a month cannot adjust your plan the way one who sees you every week can.
  • The venue list is not fixed. A gym you rely on can leave the platform partway through your subscription.

Questions for the platform and for the gym

Ask any app or pass:

  • How many credits does a visit cost at the venues I would use, at the hours I would go?
  • Is there a monthly cap per venue, and do unused credits roll over?
  • Which areas and classes does a visit include at each venue?

Ask any gym you might join instead:

  • Do you accept visits through any app or pass, and on what terms?
  • What does a membership include that a visiting pass would not?
  • Can I see the floor at my usual hour before I commit?

Then set the figures side by side on the same basis. Comparing membership value shows how to turn each option into a cost per realistic visit.

Worked example: a consultant whose office keeps moving

Take a consultant whose client projects move around the city: a few months in an office on Al Maryah Island, then a stretch in Mussafah, then back to the city centre. She trains three times a week, mostly spin and circuit classes with some light dumbbell work, and has no strength target. Call the pass P a month, and a membership at one gym on her current route M.

She weighsOne membershipMulti-venue pass
Fit with her weekGood for this project, poor after the next moveGood wherever the project sits
What she trainsClasses and light weights, all in one placeThe same, spread across venues
Monthly costM, for the length of the termP, reviewed month by month
Main riskA long cross-city drive once the project movesCaps or credit costs at the venues she likes most

With no strength numbers to track and a workplace that keeps moving, the pass fits her better, provided P is not much more than M. She checks the monthly cap at the two studios she likes most and sets a review for six months. If her firm then puts her on one long project, she will price a single membership on that route.

RPM as a single home gym

RPM is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, with free on-site parking. As a home gym it offers a Mixed section, where men train, and a separate women-only Ladies section with its own strength and cardio equipment and the Pilates studio. There is a functional area used for fitness boxing and HYROX-style training, plus a recovery suite. Memberships come in three tiers, Floor, Engine and Atelier, and what each covers, including sections and the recovery suite, is confirmed on enquiry.

This page cannot tell you whether RPM can be booked through any multi-venue app or pass, so ask the team directly before you plan around one. To judge the club as a possible home gym, book a free guided tour at the hour you would usually train.

// Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Can I keep a gym membership and a multi-venue pass at the same time?

You can, but you pay twice for overlapping access. It makes sense if the pass covers something your gym does not, such as climbing or a pool, and you use it often enough to justify the subscription.

Is a multi-venue pass cheaper than a membership?

Per visit it can be, especially at two or three visits a week. At higher frequency, caps and credit costs can push the cost up. Work out the cost of the visits you would really make, at the venues you would really use.

Do multi-venue passes include women-only areas?

It depends on the venue. Some exclude women-only areas from app visits altogether. Ask the venue directly rather than relying on the listing in the app.

Will a coach work with me if I mostly train at other venues?

Many will, but they can only adjust what they see. Keep a training log they can read, and book sessions often enough for the plan to stay current.
