Start with the opening time
A before-work plan has a fixed start and a fixed finish: the moment the gym opens and the moment you need to be at your desk. Everything else fits between those two, so check the opening time for each day you plan to train, including any Friday or weekend sessions.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
At RPM you get early-morning and late-evening opening, with shorter Friday hours. Hours often change in Ramadan, so ask before the month starts. If early sessions are your plan, RPM's membership page lists what to confirm, including which sections your tier covers.
From alarm to desk: a before-work timeline
| Stage | Allow | What happens | Common snag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alarm | A few minutes | Water, kit on, bag by the door from the night before | Packing in the morning instead of the night before |
| Small snack, if you want one | A few minutes | Something light you know agrees with you, or nothing | Trying a new food on a training morning |
| Drive to the gym | Your own drive, timed once at this hour | Roads are often quieter before the school run | School traffic building earlier than you expected in term time |
| Park and reach the floor | About 5 minutes | Car park, lift, locker | Arriving before opening and waiting in the car |
| Session | 30 to 50 minutes | The plan you wrote down the night before | Deciding what to do once you are there |
| Cool down | About 5 minutes | Easy walking until your breathing and sweating settle | Changing while still hot, then sweating into a clean shirt |
| Get ready | 15 to 20 minutes | Hair, grooming or make-up and office clothes, plus a shower if there is one (ask first) | Queues for mirrors or hairdryers at the busiest moment |
| Breakfast | Whatever time is left | A packed breakfast at your desk, or eaten before you leave the gym | Skipping it and flagging by the middle of the morning |
| Drive to work | Your own drive, timed once at this hour | Traffic usually builds as offices open | Leaving late because getting ready ran over |
Add your own numbers to each stage. If the total does not fit between opening time and your first meeting, shorten the session before you cut sleep.
Breakfast and the empty-stomach question
Some people train well on water alone, while others feel weak or light-headed without a little food first. No rule suits everyone, so test it on easy sessions before you try it on hard ones.
- If you eat first, keep it small and familiar: a banana, a couple of dates or a slice of toast.
- Drink water when you wake, especially in the summer months.
- Pack a proper breakfast for after the session the night before.
- If you have diabetes, low blood pressure or another medical condition, ask your doctor how to handle training before you eat.
A coach can talk about everyday habits, but a meal plan belongs with a registered dietitian.
The cool of the morning, and the roads
From May to September the early hours are usually the coolest part of the day. That matters if any part of your morning is outdoors, whether it is the walk from the car or a run before the gym. At the height of summer even early mornings can be hot and humid, so many people keep cardio indoors and save outdoor runs for the cooler months.
Morning traffic follows the school calendar. In term time, school runs add cars to the roads before offices open, and in the long summer holiday the morning drive is often easier. Time your drive once at the hour you would really leave, on a school day, rather than trusting a quiet holiday morning.
Sleep is the hidden cost. An early alarm only works with an earlier bedtime, which usually means moving your whole evening back. If you are regularly short of sleep, a later session is the better trade.
Walking into the office ready
The finish line for a morning session is your desk, so the changing area matters as much as the racks.
- Mirrors and hairdryers, with room to sort your hair, make-up or headscarf without rushing.
- Showers: ask how many there are, how busy they get at your hour, and whether towels are provided.
- Lockers big enough for office clothes, folded flat or on a hanger.
- Somewhere for a spare shirt or shoes, or keep a set at the office instead.
At RPM, the grooming hub is a vanity area with hairdryers and products, and the changing area has keypad lockers. Ask the team about showers and towels for your section.
Early sessions at RPM: what fits
RPM has a single club on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal. There is free on-site parking at AD HUB and a lift up to the floor, and the club opens early on office days, as the hours above show. Women can train in the women-only Ladies section or the Mixed section, depending on their tier, and men train in the Mixed section.
RPM does not publish how busy its mornings are. Many gyms see a rush before office hours, so book a free guided tour at the hour you would train and look at the floor and the grooming hub then. If mornings do not suit you, compare training after work and training at lunch.
Questions, answered.
Is training first thing in the morning bad for you?
For most healthy adults, the time of day matters less than training regularly. You may feel stiffer early on, so give the warm-up a few extra minutes. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor.
Can I train before work on a Friday?
Check the Friday hours in the table first, because they are shorter. Allow for Friday prayers too if they are part of your day.
What should I pack the night before?
Training kit, office clothes on a hanger, toiletries, a towel until you know whether the gym provides one, and a packed breakfast. The fewer decisions you face when the alarm goes, the more likely you are to go.
How do I train before work in Ramadan?
Many people stop morning sessions while fasting and move training to after iftar. Gym hours often change for the month, so ask, and talk to your doctor about training while fasting if you have a medical condition.
What if I am not a morning person?
Then do not force it. An evening session you keep beats a morning one you keep sleeping through.
