One session or two?
A weekend away is short, and training should fit around it, not the reverse. Decide before you arrive, because the answer changes what access you need.
| Your weekend looks like | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A long drive or flight on day one | One session, on day two | Training straight after travel in summer heat is hard work for little return |
| Two clear mornings | Two sessions, one each day | A short strength session, then a short conditioning session |
| Family or friends with their own plans | One session while they rest or shop | One hour away is easier to arrange than two |
| A race, match or event you came for | One light session the day before, or none | Arrive fresh for the main event |
Buy day access per visit
For one or two visits, a single-day pass per visit is usually the simplest choice. Each visit is confirmed on its own, and you are not paying for days you will spend on the beach. A weekly pass rarely makes sense for two visits, though it is worth pricing both if the gym sells them.
At RPM, day-pass availability and conditions change, so read the day pass details and message the team with your date. They confirm whether a pass is available, what it costs, which section it covers and whether the recovery suite is included.
- Two visits usually means two passes. Ask whether the second day costs the same, and whether a pass can move if your plans shift.
- Ask whether Fridays and weekend days come with different rules or times.
- The rest of what to ask is in what visitors should ask about gym access.
Which weekend are you on?
The UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday, and Friday is a short working day for many offices. Visitors from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman often come on their own Friday-to-Saturday weekend. The difference matters, because Friday is when gym hours and traffic change most.
| Day | What changes | Plan for it |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | Friday prayers around midday, busy roads around mosques, shorter hours at many gyms | Train in the late morning or late afternoon, and check the Friday hours |
| Saturday | Malls and family spots fill from the afternoon | Train in the morning or early afternoon, before the evening crowds |
| Sunday | A day off for UAE residents, a travel or working day for many GCC visitors | Train early if you are driving or flying home |
Gym in the heat, outdoors in the cool
From May to September, outdoor plans belong to the first hours after sunrise and the hours after sunset. The middle of the day is for air-conditioned places, which makes it a good slot for the gym. In the cooler months, roughly November to March, flip it: outdoors by day, gym in the evening.
| Months | Outdoor time | Gym time |
|---|---|---|
| May to September | Sunrise and after sunset: a walk or run on the Corniche, a swim, an early kayak through the mangroves | Late morning to late afternoon |
| October and April | Morning and evening | Midday, or whenever suits |
| November to March | Most of the day | Evening, or any gap the day leaves |
Heat builds up over a weekend. Carry water, wear a hat outdoors, and if you feel dizzy or sick, stop, get into shade or air conditioning and drink. Anyone with a medical condition should check with a doctor before training hard in the heat.
Two weekend plans
| When | Plan A: one session | Plan B: two sessions |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1, morning | Walk or swim at sunrise | Gym: strength, about 45 minutes |
| Day 1, midday | Gym: full-body session, about an hour | Lunch, then rest out of the heat |
| Day 1, evening | Corniche walk after sunset | Easy walk, early night |
| Day 2, morning | Beach or a slow breakfast | Gym: conditioning on the functional floor or a bike, about half an hour |
| Day 2, afternoon | Travel home | Travel home |
Plan B works when both days start clear. Swap the order if your second day is the busier one.
- One set of kit per session, plus swimwear if the beach is on the plan.
- Trainers you can lift in, since the gym session is the one that needs them.
- A refillable bottle and sun cream for the outdoor half of the day.
- A photo of your ID on your phone, in case the gym registers visitors.
A weekend session at RPM
RPM Gym is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, with free on-site parking and a lift to Level 4. Men train in the Mixed section, and the Ladies section is for women only, with its own strength and cardio equipment and the Pilates studio. Ask which section a day pass covers, and check your day against the hours below, especially if it is a Friday.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.

Questions, answered.
Is it worth paying for gym access on a two-day trip?
If training is part of how you unwind, yes. One session in a full gym can carry you through the weekend. If you only want to move, a walk or run on the Corniche in the cool hours, or a swim, may be enough.
Can I train on a Friday in Abu Dhabi?
Yes, at most gyms, but hours are often shorter than on other days, and roads around mosques get busy at midday prayers. Check the gym's Friday hours before you set off.
I am driving down from Dubai for the weekend. Should I train when I arrive?
Waiting until the next morning usually works better. If you do train on arrival, drink water on the way, keep the session light and give yourself time to cool down after the drive.
Can my children come to the gym with me?
Ask each gym about its age rules. At RPM, youth fitness is coach-supervised and arranged and approved by a parent or guardian, so ask the team which ages each session accepts.
What if my weekend falls in Ramadan?
Gym hours usually change for the month, and many people train after iftar, so evenings get busy late. Ask for the Ramadan timetable, and if you are fasting, keep outdoor exercise for after sunset.
