What your local gym already covers
Picture a week of three or four sessions from a home in Shakhbout City, out on the mainland. With RPM's club in Al Manhal a mainland commute away, as the route box shows, it cannot be the gym for every one of them. A gym in your own area carries most of the work: cardio, routine strength sessions, the days when you have an hour and no more. The case for RPM rests on what that local routine is missing. Before deciding, read how RPM's one club looks from the outer suburbs.
A weekly trip is worth considering if any of these sound like you:
- You have trained for months without progress and cannot see why.
- You are unsure about your squat, deadlift or press technique, and nobody at your local gym checks it.
- You want a plan written for you, with someone reviewing it every week.
- You are coming back after a long break and want supervision for the first months.
- A woman in the household wants a female coach in a space for women only.
If none of them applies, keep it simple and train locally.
How a weekly coached visit works with a local gym
| Part of the week | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| The coached session | RPM, with a coach | Technique on the main lifts, a progress check and the plan for the coming week |
| Two or three main sessions | Your local gym | The plan's lifts, at the loads and sets the coach chose |
| Cardio and lighter days | Your local gym, outdoors in the cooler months, or at home | Walking, cycling or easy cardio |
| Between visits | Wherever you are | Notes or videos of your sets for the coach to review, if your coach works that way |
RPM's personal training is built around your goal and schedule, so ask at the start whether your coach will plan the local sessions too, and how they want your feedback. The tiers matter here: Engine adds coached programming to the training floor, and Atelier is built around one-to-one coaching. Inclusions and prices are confirmed on enquiry. Coaches on the roster include Issam Almasaalmeh for personal training and Coach Maria for strength and conditioning in the Ladies section.
Choosing the weekly slot
A weekly visit only works if it happens every week. Pick a slot you can protect for months, not the one that looks easiest this week.
| Slot | Works for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday or Sunday morning | Most residents who work Monday to Friday | Family plans creeping into the morning |
| A weekday evening after an island workday | Anyone whose office is on the island | Late meetings eating the session |
| Friday | Few people, given the shorter club hours | Midday prayers and the earlier close |
| A day off in midweek | Shift and rota workers | Whether your coach works that day, so ask |
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Ramadan changes the hours, so book the weekly slot again once the adjusted times are out.
Theyab Bin Eissa Street to Al Manhal, once a week
The mapped route from Shakhbout City takes Theyab Bin Eissa Street and then Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street onto the island, with the figures in the route box. Once there, use the free on-site parking and the lift to Level 4. Drive it once at your chosen slot before you book a block of coaching, since a weekend morning and a weekday evening can feel like two different trips.
Bring the week's notes as well as your kit. A short list of what went well at your local gym, and what did not, gives the coach something to work with.
When the weekly trip is not paying off
- You have missed more weekly visits than you have made over the past month.
- The coach's plan is not followed on the local days, so each visit starts from scratch.
- The drive leaves you too tired to train well once you arrive.
- You realise you wanted company or motivation rather than coaching, which a group class at a local gym may give you for less driving.
In any of those cases, scale back: a visit every second week for a technique check, or a short block of coached sessions before an event, then back to training locally.
Questions, answered.
Where would I actually train if I joined from Shakhbout City?
At RPM's only club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, on the island. From Shakhbout City that is a mainland commute, which is why this page suggests a weekly visit rather than daily training.
Is one coached session a week enough?
It can keep your technique and your plan on track, provided the local sessions happen. What you do on the other days shapes your progress as much as the coached hour does, and no coach can promise a result.
Can a woman in the family work with a female coach?
Yes. Female coaches on the roster work in the Ladies section, which is for women only and has its own strength and cardio equipment and the Pilates studio. Ask which of them coaches at your chosen slot.
Can I try a coached session before committing to a block?
Start with the free guided tour, then ask the team how a first coached session can be arranged and whether a day pass is available at the moment. Pass details change over time, and the team confirms availability, price and inclusions.
Should I cancel my local membership?
Not if you choose the weekly-visit plan, because the local gym does most of the training in it. Switch to RPM fully only if your days start taking you onto the island often.
