Downtown's green space, and what it leaves out
Capital Garden is a garden mapped in Al Danah, downtown, and the route box above measures from it. For residents of the surrounding blocks, it may be the nearest green space to home. This page is for those residents: the after-dinner walkers, the evening joggers and the families who use the garden and want to add proper training to the week.
RPM is not in the garden. It is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, a short cross-island trip away. Start with RPM's address and what to check from a downtown flat. A garden is good for steady movement in the open air, but it has no barbells and no coach, and from May to September even the evenings can be too hot to walk far.
Garden or gym tonight? Decide by the evening you are having
| If tonight is | Go to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cool, and you have little time | The garden | A walk needs no drive and no kit |
| Still hot after sunset | RPM | Cardio indoors, on treadmills, cross-trainers or bikes |
| One of your two strength nights | RPM | The rack, the plate-loaded machines and the cable towers are why you joined |
| A night when you are worn out after work | The garden | An easy walk keeps the habit without asking much |
| A night your walking partner cancels | RPM, if it is a planned gym night | A booked class or coached session keeps you going alone |
| A family evening | The garden, all together | Training can wait for the morning |
Fix the strength nights in advance and let the garden fill the rest. A plan that decides every evening from scratch tends to end on the sofa. For a wider view of training around a downtown working week, see planning a gym habit as an island professional.
Bringing your walking partners indoors
Many garden habits are social: a neighbour, a sister or a group from the building. Keeping that company is often what keeps people training, so move the group with you rather than going alone.
- Mixed groups can train together in the Mixed section, where men and women share the floor.
- A group of women who would rather train among women can use the Ladies section, which has its own strength and cardio equipment and the Pilates studio.
- Both sections host group classes, and since the timetable changes, ask the team which class fits the hour your group usually walks.
- Each person should confirm which sections their own tier covers, since it varies.
- Keep one garden walk a week together, so the gym adds to the friendship instead of replacing it.
Out of downtown and up to Level 4
The mapped route follows Zayed The First Street (Electra Street) and ends on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Airport Road) into Al Manhal. By the figures it is a short cross-island trip, though the downtown grid at the end of office hours can make it feel longer. At AD HUB, free on-site parking and a lift up to Level 4 take care of the arrival.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Opening runs from early morning to late evening, with shorter hours on Fridays. A later slot, once the downtown streets have emptied, tends to suit garden regulars who walk after dinner.
Questions a garden walker should ask on the tour
Book the free guided tour for the evening hour you would really use. Expect a walk-through with someone from the team rather than a training session. Take these with you:
- Which classes suit someone who walks or jogs but has never lifted.
- How coached programming works in the Engine tier, and how personal training is booked.
- Which hours are quietest on the floor you would use.
- Whether a teenager in the family could join youth fitness, and for which ages.
- What each tier includes and costs. Prices are shared on enquiry.
Questions, answered.
Is RPM inside Capital Garden?
No. RPM operates one club, inside AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, on Level 4. From Capital Garden it is a short cross-island trip, with the mapped estimates in the route box above.
I already walk most evenings. How much gym time should I add?
Start with the amount you can keep. For many people that means two fixed evenings at the gym and walks on the others. A coach can adjust it once you have settled in.
Can I jog indoors when the garden is too hot?
Yes. Treadmills, cross-trainers, an upright bike and spin bikes are on the cardio floor, and women in the Ladies section have cardio machines of their own.
Should I get fitter before joining?
No. Begin with the tour and a coached session so someone shows you how the machines adjust. If you have a heart condition or another health condition, or have not exercised for a long time, check with your doctor first.
