A hospital on Al Maryah Island, and one club across the water
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's own website describes it as a multispecialty hospital on Al Maryah Island. This page is for anyone who works there on a rota with long shifts, nights or both, whatever the role. The aim is strength training that survives the rota, instead of a plan that falls apart at the first set of nights.
RPM has no arrangement with the hospital, and its prices are shared on enquiry rather than published. It is a single club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, and the route box rates the drive from Maryah a short cross-island trip. Before you plan around nights, read RPM's one club, judged from a rota with nights in it.
Where you are in a block of nights decides the session
Find where today sits in your rota, then read across the row.
| Point in the rota | Train? | What fits | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| The day before the first night | Yes, early in your waking day | A full strength session, then a nap before work | You are rested, and it is done before the night |
| Between two nights | No | Sleep and a proper meal, with a short walk at most | Daytime sleep is the scarce resource in a run of nights |
| Home after the last night | No | Bed first | A drive and a workout on no sleep add risk for little return |
| First day off after nights | Lightly, once you have slept | Easy cardio, mobility work or a gentle session | Your body clock is still swinging back to days |
| Second day off | Yes | The week's heaviest session, or one with a coach | Often your freshest day of the cycle |
| A long day shift that ends with energy left | Sometimes | A short session planned before the shift started | Choosing on the floor after a long day rarely works |
| A long day shift that ends drained | No | Home and an early night | A tired session builds little and costs sleep |
Read this table as general training information, not medical advice. If your rota leaves you short of sleep for weeks at a time, raise it with your doctor.
Two sessions in a week that contains nights is a good result. A week of day shifts may hold a third.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Sleep, food and the drive come before the workout
Habits that protect a night worker matter more than any programme:
- Guard the main daytime sleep. A session that cuts into it takes more than it gives.
- Eat a real meal before training on a day off after nights, instead of arriving on coffee alone.
- If you catch yourself yawning at the wheel on the way over, go home. The session can move to tomorrow.
- Keep the heaviest lifting for days that follow two good nights of sleep in a row.
A coach is useful here. Through personal training, ask for the week to be planned from your published rota rather than a Monday-to-Friday office template, with the sessions that can shrink on short sleep marked in advance.
Heat and cold after a long shift: what the recovery suite offers
Heat and cold both sit in the recovery suite: a Finnish sauna, an aroma steam room and an ice bath. Some shift workers wind down with heat on a day off, others prefer cold. Neither replaces sleep, and neither suits everyone: if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, check with your doctor before using them. Which tiers cover it is a question for the team.
Save it for a day off. A sauna just before the drive home is a poor idea when you are already tired.
From Al Maryah Island to Level 4, with work clothes in the bag
The mapped route from the hospital follows Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street (Salam Street) off the island and into Al Manhal. AD HUB has free on-site parking and a lift to Level 4, and the route box gives the mapped estimates, which shift-change traffic can stretch.
- Change out of scrubs or uniform before you train, and carry them home in a separate bag.
- Keypad lockers in the changing area hold your phone, staff badge and keys.
- Ask the team whether towels are provided, and about showers, before you rely on either.
- Women who would rather train away from men can use the women-only Ladies section, with its own equipment and the Pilates studio, if their tier covers it.

Questions, answered.
Is RPM part of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, or on Al Maryah Island?
Neither. RPM is an independent club with one location, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal on the main island. From Maryah it is a short cross-island trip, with the mapped estimates in the route box.
Is there a special price for hospital staff?
RPM does not publish prices, so ask the team what applies to you, and do not plan around a rate until it is confirmed. If several people in your department are interested, your employer can ask about corporate arrangements, which are tailored to each organisation.
My night shift ends in the morning. Is the club open at that hour?
Opening starts early in the morning, as the hours above show. That does not make a session sensible: after a night, go home and sleep.
Will lifting make it harder to sleep during the day?
People differ. Some sleep better on training days, while others stay alert after a hard session late in their waking day. Before nights, train early and notice how you sleep.
My rota changes every month. Should I commit to a membership?
Count the days in two or three past rotas that would have carried a session. If the count is low, ask whether a day pass or a weekly pass is available while you test the plan. Passes are time-sensitive, so availability, price and what is included are for the team to confirm.
