Driving out to NMC Royal Hospital, Khalifa City: a session at the island end of the commute

If you live on the island and drive out to NMC Royal Hospital in Khalifa City for your shifts, RPM in Al Manhal sits at the home end of a mainland commute: after an early shift on the way back, or before a late one on the way out. If you live in Khalifa City yourself, the commute runs the other way, and a gym by home will suit ordinary training better.

Which way does your commute run?

NMC Healthcare's website lists NMC Royal Hospital, Khalifa City as located in Khalifa City, on the mainland. RPM is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal on the island, with no arrangement with the hospital, and the route box calls the drive between them a mainland commute. For the general checks, read RPM's location, read from a reverse commute to the mainland.

The guide to choosing a gym on your daily commute explains why the end of the drive you return to most often is usually the better place for a gym.

Match the slot to the shift

Late shiftBefore, late in the morning, then the drive outLeave time to eat and change, so the shift does not start in a rush

Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.

Most island-based staff on a mix of shifts find two sessions a week in these slots, with a third on a day off when the rota is kind.

After an early shift: the stop on the way home, in order

  1. At handover, decide the size of the session: the full plan if you finished on time, a short version if not, or nothing if you are drained.
  2. Eat something before you leave the hospital, so you are not training on an empty stomach.
  3. Drive in, park in AD HUB's free on-site parking and take the lift to Level 4.
  4. Change out of uniform, and put your valuables in a keypad locker in the changing area.
  5. Train the session you chose, leaving out heavy legs if the shift kept you on your feet.
  6. Get ready at the grooming hub, which has hairdryers and products at its vanity area. Ask the team about towels and showers before your first visit.
  7. Drive the last part home, and note the time you walk through the door.

That arrival time is the test. If it still leaves a full night's sleep before the next early shift, keep the routine. If not, move the session to a day off.

Theyab Bin Eissa Street to Al Manhal

Mapped from the hospital, the route goes out by Theyab Bin Eissa Street, uses Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street to reach the island, and arrives in Al Manhal on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Airport Road). The route box holds the mapped estimates for this line.

Your trip home starts at the hospital too, so compare those roads with the ones you already drive. If they match, the stop costs the session and little else. If your way home takes another line onto the island, drive the detour once at your usual hour before you count on it.

If you live in Khalifa City

For staff who live in Khalifa City or another mainland suburb, a drive to Al Manhal is a separate trip on every visit. A gym by home will carry everyday training better. RPM can still earn an occasional day off:

  • A coached session with a plan to follow at your local gym between visits.
  • For women, the women-only Ladies section, with its own strength and cardio equipment and the Pilates studio.
  • Heat and cold in the recovery suite: a Finnish sauna, an aroma steam room and an ice bath. Your tier decides access, and anyone pregnant or with a heart condition should talk to a doctor before using it.

// Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Does RPM have a club in Khalifa City, or at the hospital?

No. RPM has a single club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal on the island. From the hospital it is a mainland commute, with the mapped estimates in the route box.

My handover often runs late. Can an evening stop still work?

Yes, if the session has a short version written in advance. On late days do only that, and on very late ones go straight home. A plan that bends is far more likely to survive a hospital rota than a fixed one.

My late shift ends in the evening. Can I train afterwards?

Check the hours above against your finish time and the drive back. The club opens until late in the evening, with shorter Friday hours, but a late finish may leave too little time, and sleep matters more.

Can several of us from the hospital set something up together?

Ask your HR team. There is no existing arrangement with the hospital, and corporate arrangements are tailored to each organisation and confirmed on enquiry.

Can men and women from the same team train together?

Yes, in the Mixed section, which is open to both. Women can also use the Ladies section if their tier covers it.
