A campus that already has a pool and a fitness centre
NYU Abu Dhabi's website describes its Saadiyat Island campus as built around students, faculty and staff who live there. Its sports pages mention recreational sports, a pool and a climbing wall, and a fitness centre appears among its contacts. Ask the university what each one includes and who may use it. For plenty of people on campus, that is where everyday training belongs.
RPM is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal on the main island, and the route box rates the trip from campus a longer island or bridge trip. So the useful question is narrower than which gym to pick: what would you cross the water for that the campus does not give you? The general method for weighing any gym trip is on the case for and against a gym trip from campus.
Who on campus might look across the bridge
| Who you are | Your usual week | Where RPM could fit |
|---|---|---|
| A student living on campus | Classes, meals and sport all on Saadiyat | An occasional planned outing for something the campus does not offer |
| Faculty or staff living on campus | Work and home on the same island | A weekend session, or one booked coached slot a week |
| Staff living on the main island | A daily drive over the bridge and back | A stop on the way home, with no extra crossing |
| A woman who wants a floor for women only | Whatever the campus timetable allows | The women-only Ladies section, which has its own floor and the Pilates studio |
| Anyone working towards a goal with a coach | Self-guided sessions on campus | Coached sessions at RPM, with the campus days written into the plan |
The third row is the easy case. If you already drive between the main island and Saadiyat every working day, a session at RPM on the way home costs you a stop rather than a trip. For everyone else, each visit is a separate outing that needs a clear purpose.
How the academic year changes the plan
Let the university calendar set the rhythm. Planning by semester is covered in the guide for university students, so this is only the part that changes when the gym sits across a bridge.
- Teaching weeks: one fixed visit off the island each week, ideally on a weekend morning, with campus sessions on the other days.
- Assessment and exam periods: drop the trip and train on campus, or rest. A long round trip is the first thing to cut when time runs short.
- Breaks you spend in Abu Dhabi: the calendar opens up, so a short block of more frequent visits, perhaps with a coach, fits well.
- Breaks you spend away: pause rather than pay for visits you will not make, and ask the team what your membership allows.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Aim weekend visits at Saturday or Sunday where you can. The club keeps shorter hours on Fridays, and Ramadan brings its own timetable.
Stack one visit with what only the trip offers
A longer trip repays you most when one visit does more than one job. Combinations that tend to work:
- A coached session followed by heavy work on the squat rack, with the coach also writing your campus sessions for the rest of the week. Personal training at RPM explains how sessions are planned.
- For women, a reformer class in the Pilates studio and a strength block in the same Ladies section, without leaving it.
- Conditioning on the turf lane with the sled and battle ropes, then the recovery suite if your tier includes it. Ask a doctor first if you are pregnant or have a heart condition.
- Training in the HYROX style on the functional floor. RPM is independent, and it is not an official HYROX partner or venue.
If none of these appeals, the campus is probably the better gym for you.
The mapped route, and getting there without a car
The mapped route uses Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street (Salam Street) on its way to AD HUB, where parking is free and on site and a lift goes up to Level 4.
If you live on campus without a car, settle how you will get there and back before you book anything, and count that time as part of the trip.
Book the free guided tour for the hour you would really come. Ask about prices while you are there, because RPM does not publish them, and do not assume a student or staff rate exists.

Questions, answered.
Is RPM on Saadiyat Island or part of NYU Abu Dhabi?
Neither. RPM has one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal on the main island, and no link with the university. From the campus it is a longer bridge trip, and the route box shows the mapped estimates.
Do NYU Abu Dhabi students or staff get a different price?
RPM does not publish prices online, and this page cannot tell you that a student or staff rate exists. Ask the team what is available, then compare it with what your campus facilities already include.
I use the campus fitness centre. Can I add RPM for one thing only?
Yes. You can keep the campus for everyday sessions and use RPM for a single purpose, such as a weekly coached session or the Ladies section. Ask which tier fits that pattern, and whether any pass is on offer at the moment.
Is the trip worth it during exams?
Usually not. In exam periods, a short session on campus or a rest day protects your time better than a long round trip. Pick the visits back up once the calendar clears.
I teach at NYU Abu Dhabi and live on the main island. When should I train?
On days you drive home from campus, so the session sits inside a crossing you already make. Mornings mean an earlier start before the drive out, so try both first.
