Rabdan Academy is not in Rabdan
Rabdan Academy's website describes it as a government-owned higher education institution serving the safety, security, defence, emergency preparedness and crisis management sectors. The same page explains the name: it comes from the Rabd horses, a celebrated Arabian bloodline, not from the Rabdan district at the bridges on the mainland edge. The route box on this page is mapped from the academy's main campus on the island.
RPM has no connection with the academy. It is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, and the trip from campus is rated a short cross-island trip. For the general checks on timing and trip, see RPM's one club, mapped from the academy rather than the district.
Three kinds of people on one campus
The academy says it follows a dual model that combines academic study with specialised vocational training, and that it recognises prior learning and professional experience. In practice that puts different weeks side by side in the same corridors:
| Who you are | What usually decides your training time | How RPM can fit |
|---|---|---|
| A full-time student preparing for a career in the sector | The class and vocational timetable | After the last class, three or four times a week, with a progression planned over the semester |
| A serving professional studying alongside work | Your shift pattern, with classes laid on top | Short sessions in shift weeks, longer ones on rested days off |
| Faculty or professional staff | Office hours and teaching commitments | Before or after work, or a full lunch break on lighter days |
Women on any of these paths who would rather train among women can use the Ladies section. It has its own strength and cardio floor, and Imen Hasnaoui, the combat and self-defence coach on the roster, works there alongside Coach Maria, who coaches strength and conditioning.
A semester of base building, in four blocks
Security and emergency roles vary widely, so this stays general. What most of them share is a need to lift and carry, to keep going for a long time, and to repeat hard efforts with little rest. A semester at the gym can build those in order:
- Foundation: learn the main lifts with a coach, add steady work on treadmills, cross-trainers or spin bikes, and make attendance the only target.
- Strength: load the squat, a hinge and a press progressively on the rack and the plate-loaded machines.
- Work capacity: sled pushes on the turf lane, battle ropes, kettlebell work and carries, in intervals that get harder from week to week.
- Specific preparation: practise the events in your employer's current requirement, with the coach adjusting volume as the date approaches.
No test standard appears on this page because RPM has none to give. The requirement comes from the service you are joining or serving in, and it changes, so take the current version from them.
A coach through personal training can write the four blocks around your timetable. The functional training floor is where most of the third block happens.
Vocational days, shifts and the off-campus site
- After a demanding vocational day, keep the session short: mobility, a main lift at moderate load, then home.
- In a run of shifts, protect sleep first. One short session holds the habit until your days off.
- Put the hardest session of the week on a rested day, not straight after a long one.
- The academy's campus page also describes an off-campus instructional site at Zayed Military University, on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. If that is where you study, the route box does not apply, so time your own trip.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Hours run from early morning to late evening, with shorter Friday hours. In Ramadan, academy and club timetables can both change, so rebuild the plan once the new times are known.
Across the island, and a trial week
The mapped route from the main campus finishes on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Airport Road) into AD HUB, which has free on-site parking and a lift to Level 4. Drive it once at the hour you would really train before you build a semester around it.
Book the free guided tour, and ask whether a weekly pass is available to test the first block. Passes are time-sensitive, so confirm availability, price and inclusions with the team. RPM does not publish prices, so ask about any rate for students or staff instead of assuming one.

Questions, answered.
Is RPM part of Rabdan Academy, or in the Rabdan district?
Neither. RPM has one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, with no link to the academy. From the main campus it is a short cross-island trip, as the route box shows.
Can a coach prepare me for a recruitment fitness test?
A coach can plan towards the requirement you bring, with a date to aim for. Get the current standard from the employer or programme, since RPM cannot tell you what any test involves.
Is boxing at RPM the same as self-defence training?
No. Fitness boxing in the Mixed section's functional area means bag work, pad work and conditioning. In the Ladies section the roster lists a combat and self-defence coach, so ask what her sessions cover. Ask about sparring rather than assume it.
I live in the academy's student accommodation. Is RPM realistic on weekdays?
It can be, if you have a car or a regular ride, because the trip is a short cross-island one. Without either, sort out the trip both ways before you join.
Is the recovery suite useful after a hard training week?
It can round off a rest day. The recovery suite has a Finnish sauna, an aroma steam room and an ice bath, but it does not replace sleep. See your doctor first if you have a heart condition or are pregnant, and ask whether your tier includes it.
