Golfers at Abu Dhabi City Golf Club: building the body that swings the club

RPM has no link with the golf club. The club sits on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, a short cross-island trip from the course. For a golfer it is somewhere to do the work a round cannot give you: rotational strength, hip and upper-back mobility, and balance on one leg, coached around your playing days. Two sessions a week is a realistic target for most club golfers.

The course for your golf, a training floor for your body

Abu Dhabi City Golf Club is a golf club in Abu Dhabi, and the route box above measures from it as mapped. This page is for the people who play there and want their bodies to cope better with the game. It says nothing about the club's own facilities.

RPM is one club, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, and the route box rates the drive from the golf club a short cross-island trip. Golf rewards a body that turns well and stays balanced, and both can be trained indoors on days you are not playing. For the general checks, read RPM's single club, judged from a golfer's week.

This is general training information, not a swing lesson or medical advice. Back, shoulder or elbow pain is a question for a doctor or physiotherapist before you add load.

A coach can turn the table into two sessions that suit your swing and your history. Personal training at RPM is planned around your goal and schedule, and a golfer's schedule includes tee times.

Round days, range days and gym days in one week

If you play at the weekend, as many club golfers do, the gym belongs to the weekdays.

DayGolfGym
SaturdayA roundNothing
SundayA second round, or restNothing, or light mobility at home
MondayNoneStrength session one, the heavier of the two
TuesdayRange practice after workNothing
WednesdayNoneStrength session two, with more rotation and single-leg work
ThursdayShort-game practiceNothing heavy, so you arrive fresh for the weekend

Swap the days to match your own rounds. The rule is the same: no hard leg or trunk session the day before you play.

If you practise and train on the same day, hit balls first and train afterwards. A tired body grooves a tired swing.

The playing season and the summer block

Golf in Abu Dhabi tends to follow the weather. From May to September most club golfers play less, or move their rounds to early mornings and evenings, and that quieter stretch suits a building block in the gym.

  • Summer: three sessions a week if you can, building strength while golf takes less of your energy.
  • Autumn, as rounds pick up: drop to two sessions and add more speed and rotation work.
  • The cooler months of heavy play: two sessions, kept moderate, to hold what you built.
  • Before a club competition you care about: one light session in the final week, then rest.

The functional area, with its turf lane and medicine balls, carries most of the speed and carry work, and it stays indoors when the course is too hot to walk.

Coaches, the Ladies section and junior golfers

In the Mixed section, Taha Ragab is on the roster as a general fitness coach. Women golfers who would rather train among women can use the Ladies section, where Coach Maria is on the roster as a strength and conditioning coach. The Atelier tier is built around one-to-one coaching, if you want every session planned.

Some golfers add Pilates for trunk control. At RPM the Pilates studio sits inside the Ladies section, so reformer Pilates is open to women only. Ask which apparatus a class uses before you book.

Teenagers who play can start with youth fitness, which is coach-supervised and arranged and approved by a parent or guardian. Ask the team which ages each session accepts.

// Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Does RPM have an arrangement with Abu Dhabi City Golf Club?

No. RPM is an independent club with a single location, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal. The route box shows the mapped trip from the golf club.

Will lifting weights make my swing stiff?

Strength work planned around golf usually includes mobility, and coaches keep heavy sessions away from playing days. If you are changing your swing with a golf professional, tell your RPM coach.

Should I go to the gym before or after hitting balls?

After, or on a separate day. Practising when your legs and trunk are already tired tends to groove poor movement.

I am in my sixties and play most weekends. Is strength training sensible for me?

Many older golfers train with a coach, starting light and building slowly. If you have a heart condition, a joint replacement or other medical history, ask your doctor before you start, and share their advice with the coach.

Can I use the recovery suite after a round?

The suite has a Finnish sauna, an aroma steam room and an ice bath, and the team can tell you which tiers include it. Drink water after a hot round first, and if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, check with your doctor before using heat or cold.
