A resort that lists its own fitness centres
Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental stands on West Corniche Road in the Ras Al Akhdar district, at the western edge of the Corniche. Its website lists a long run of facilities for guests who want to stay active, set out in the table below, and that changes the question worth asking.
The question is not whether to leave the hotel to train, but which sessions, if any, the resort cannot host. The hotel and RPM have no arrangement of any kind, and RPM's only club is on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal. Read RPM's single club, weighed against a resort that already has fitness centres, then check the three gaps further down.
What the resort lists, and what each option trains
| Listed on the hotel's website | Suits | Worth asking the hotel |
|---|---|---|
| Two fitness centres | Day-to-day training while you stay | Which free weights and racks they hold |
| Tennis and padel courts | A game with family or friends | How courts are booked |
| Jogging and cycling trails in the grounds | Easy runs and rides in the cooler hours | Which trail matches your usual distance |
| Outdoor pools and a private beach | Swimming and lighter days | Which pool suits lengths |
| A spa with a recovery programme | Treatments between training days | What the programme involves |
This list comes from the hotel's own website. The hotel runs its facilities on its own terms, so check the details with it directly.
Most of a resort week fits inside that list. Run the trails while the air is cooler, swim, play a game, and use the fitness centres for everything else. The trip to Al Manhal is for whatever is left over, and on many stays nothing is.
Three gaps worth the drive, and how to check each one
| The gap | Ask the hotel first | What RPM has |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy free weights | What is the heaviest dumbbell, and is there a rack with a barbell and plates? | Floor photos show a squat rack with colour bumper plates, benches and plate-loaded machines |
| One coach over several sessions | Can I book the same trainer for each session of my stay? | Strength and conditioning coaches, booked through personal training |
| A training floor for women only | Is any part of the gym reserved for women? | The women-only Ladies section, which has its own strength and cardio kit plus the Pilates studio |
If the hotel's answers cover your plan, stay in and use what the room rate already pays for. If one answer is no, and that gap is the session you care about most, one or two trips across the island make sense. The length-of-stay test for hotel guests settles how many.
Placing one trip in a resort week
- Pick a morning with nothing booked at the spa or on the courts, so the session is never squeezed.
- Book a coach for that first visit through personal training if heavy lifting is new to you or you want your technique checked.
- Pack for lunch out as well as the session. Keypad lockers in the changing area hold your bag, and the grooming hub has hairdryers and products.
- If you want the women-only Ladies section, confirm before the day that a visitor's access covers it.
- Ask whether a day pass is available for that date. The team confirms the price and inclusions, and whether one is available at all.
One visit planned this way does more than three squeezed between beach afternoons.
From West Corniche Road to AD HUB
The mapped route heads inland along King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, and the route box rates the whole drive a short cross-island trip. Leave after the morning office rush rather than in the middle of it. At AD HUB, free on-site parking and a lift to Level 4 take you straight to the club.
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 06:00–23:00 |
| Friday | 09:00–22:00 |
Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.
Early opening suits a session before a day by the water, and late opening suits one after it. Friday hours are shorter.

Questions, answered.
Is RPM part of Emirates Palace?
No. RPM has no tie to the hotel. Its one club is on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, and the route box shows the mapped drive from the hotel.
The hotel lists a recovery programme. Is RPM's suite something different?
Yes. RPM's recovery suite is a Finnish sauna and an aroma steam room, plus an ice bath, at the club, and whether a pass includes it is for the team to confirm. For the hotel's programme, ask the hotel. Heat and cold do not suit everyone, so if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, see a doctor before you use either.
Can a teenager in the family train at RPM?
Youth fitness at RPM is coach-supervised and must be arranged and approved by a parent or guardian. Ask the team which ages each session accepts before you plan around it.
Do I need to book before I go?
Yes. Message the team before the day with your date and what you want to do, so access and any coached session are confirmed rather than assumed.
Is the trip worth it if I only lift light weights?
Probably not. Light dumbbells, cardio and mobility are what a hotel fitness centre is set up for. Keep the trip for work the hotel cannot host.
