A spare room, a garden, or a club across the island?
Al Qurm is a district on Abu Dhabi island. If your home there is a villa, you may have something most apartment dwellers lack: room for your own equipment. That changes the question. You are not choosing between a gym and nothing, but between building a set-up at home and making a cross-island trip to a full club.
Plenty of people do well with a garage of dumbbells. Others find that home training stalls without heavier kit, a coach or company. The sections below help you work out which of those you are, after you have read how to test any gym against your own trip.
Home equipment against a full club
| What you want | At home | At RPM |
|---|---|---|
| Dumbbells and a bench | Easy to buy and store | A full range of dumbbells, plus benches and fixed barbells |
| Heavy squats and presses | Needs a rack, a barbell, plates and a solid floor | A squat rack with colour bumper plates |
| Machines | Bulky and costly for one household | A plate-loaded leg press and pulldown, and cable towers |
| Sled pushes and conditioning | Needs a long strip of turf and a sled | A turf lane with a sled, plus battle ropes, kettlebells and medicine balls |
| Training through the summer | Only if the room is cooled | An indoor training floor all year |
| Coaching | A home trainer, if you can find one | Personal training on site, or coached programming in the Engine tier |
| Heat and cold | A home sauna is a big project | Finnish sauna, aroma steam room and ice bath, with tier access confirmed on enquiry |
Home kit has no membership fee, but it needs space, money up front and upkeep. RPM's prices are not published online and are shared on enquiry. If you are pregnant or have a heart condition, ask your doctor before using a sauna or ice bath.
What the trip across should buy you
- A coach watching your technique, which no home set-up provides. Personal training at RPM covers strength and conditioning, combat fitness and physique work.
- Equipment you would never fit in a villa: the turf lane and sled, the cable towers, the leg press.
- For women in the household, the Ladies section, with its own training floor and the Pilates studio where reformer classes run.
- The recovery suite after a hard session, if your tier includes it.
If none of these matters to you, a well-planned home set-up, with walks outdoors in the cooler months, may be all you need for now.
The route out of Al Qurm, and the other spelling
The mapped route from Al Qurm follows Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street before the final stretch on Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Street into AD HUB. It is a cross-island trip, and the figures sit in the route box at the top of the page. You can leave the car in AD HUB's free on-site parking and take the lift to Level 4.
Is a gym for residents of Al Gurm the same as one for Al Qurm?
Yes. Al Gurm and Al Qurm are two English spellings of the same Arabic name. Gulf speech often pronounces the Arabic q as a hard g, which is why you will see both. The word itself is also Arabic for the mangrove tree. If you searched for Al Gurm, this page and its route figures apply to you.
A week that mixes home days and club days
| Day | Where | Session |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Home | Dumbbells and bodyweight work, kept short |
| Tuesday | RPM | Heavy lifting, or a coached session |
| Wednesday | Home or outdoors | A walk or easy cardio |
| Thursday | RPM | The functional area: sled, ropes, kettlebells |
| Friday | Rest | Shorter club hours and Friday prayers make it an easy day off |
| Saturday | RPM | A longer session, with the recovery suite if your tier includes it |
| Sunday | Home | Mobility and stretching before the week starts |
Three club days a week keep the crossing worthwhile, and the home days carry the rest. If three is too many, keep the coached or heavy session at RPM and move the others home.
Questions, answered.
Does RPM have a club in Al Qurm?
No. RPM's one club is on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, a cross-island trip from Al Qurm, mapped in the route box above.
I already have a home gym. Is a membership still worth it?
If your home gym covers your training, perhaps not. A membership earns its keep when you want coaching, heavier or bulkier equipment, the Ladies section or the recovery suite.
Is the drive easier at weekends?
Often, since there is no office rush, though weekend afternoons bring their own traffic. Try the drive at the hour you plan to train before you commit.
Do I need to bring my own equipment to RPM?
No. Bring training clothes and shoes, plus a water bottle. The changing area has keypad lockers, and ask whether towels are provided.
Can a coach plan my home days too?
Ask when you enquire about personal training. Coaching at RPM is built around your goal and schedule, so it is reasonable to ask whether your home sessions can be part of the plan.
