Abu Dhabi University in Khalifa City: does a gym on the island fit your commute?

From Abu Dhabi University's campus in Khalifa City, RPM in Al Manhal is a mainland commute, so it rarely suits a student who lives by the campus and wants a gym for most days. It fits staff and students who live on the island and drive out to campus: train at the home end of the day, before setting off or after getting back. Almost everyone else is better served by a gym on the mainland side.

A mainland campus, and which end of your day the club sits on

Abu Dhabi University describes itself as a private, multi-campus university, with its flagship campus in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. It also lists campuses in Al Ain and Dubai, and this page covers only the Khalifa City campus. The route box rates the drive from there to RPM, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, a mainland commute.

A commute like that works when it is part of the drive home and is hard to justify as a separate outing. So start with where you live, not with the gym. The wider checks are on weighing an island gym against a campus off the island.

The first row is where RPM makes sense. Your drive already starts or ends on the island, so a session at that end adds a stop rather than a commute.

Staff who drive out from the island: a home-end routine

Faculty and staff who live on the island and work in Khalifa City have two realistic slots, and both sit at the island end of the day.

  • Morning: train early, get ready at the club, then drive out. Use a keypad locker for your work bag and the hairdryers and products at the vanity area of the grooming hub. Before relying on the club for a shower or a towel, ask the team what is available.
  • Evening: drive back first, then stop at RPM before going home, so the session sits between the commute and the rest of the evening.
  • Pick one slot for most weeks. Switching every day makes the habit harder to keep.
  • Leave room for days with late classes or meetings, and move that day's session rather than losing the week.
DaysOpening hours

Friday09:00–22:00

Hours can change, for example during Ramadan. Confirm with the team before a late or early visit.

Opening runs from early morning to late evening, with shorter Friday hours, and Ramadan has its own timetable. Set the morning slot by your first teaching commitment and work back from it.

Students: teaching weeks, exam weeks and breaks

Students who live on the island can follow the same home-end logic, with the academic calendar laid over it. The guide for university students covers semester planning, so here is only what the commute changes.

  • Days without classes on campus: if you stay on the island, a longer session at RPM costs no commute at all.
  • Teaching weeks: one or two home-end sessions, decided once the timetable settles.
  • Exam periods: keep sessions short, and drop any that add driving.
  • Breaks: if you stay in Abu Dhabi, a block of more frequent visits fits well. If you travel, ask the team what your membership allows.

RPM does not publish prices, so ask the team about any student or staff rate rather than assuming one exists.

Al Ain Road and the drive onto the island

The mapped route from the campus runs along Al Ain Road onto the island and finishes on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Airport Road) into Al Manhal. AD HUB has free on-site parking and a lift up to Level 4.

Those figures start at the campus. If you would train at the home end, the trip that matters starts at your front door, so time it at your hour. Book the free guided tour on an ordinary teaching day, at the hour you would come, and drive there from where you would really start.

// Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Is RPM at Abu Dhabi University or in Khalifa City?

No. RPM runs a single club on the island, on Level 4 of AD HUB Sports Complex in Al Manhal, a mainland commute from the Khalifa City campus, and the route box above carries the mapped estimates.

Does this page apply to the Al Ain or Dubai campus?

No. The mapped route starts at the Khalifa City campus. Students and staff at the other campuses should look for a gym by home or by their own campus.

I live in Khalifa City. Is RPM worth it?

Usually not as an everyday gym. Train locally, and keep RPM for something specific, such as a booked coached session or the Ladies section.

Can colleagues in my department arrange something together?

Ask your HR team or line manager to contact RPM. Corporate arrangements are tailored to each organisation and confirmed on enquiry.

I teach evening classes. Will the club still be open when I get back?

Check the hours block above against your finishing time and the drive. If the session would run up against closing time, use a morning slot on that day instead.
